I am a mature student at Whiston Taekwondo, and also help coach the youngsters, mainly the newcomers. I started tkd about 7 years ago when I met our now head coach Ed in work. Ed invited myself and my daughter Lois to a class and so our Taekwondo journey began. Initially we trained, graded and competed under the ITF banner, the seed was planted and we began to grow. Numerous national competitions later, my family found ourselves travelling to Rimini in Italy for the world’s open tournament where our daughter won gold, we returned proud parents!!
In 2013 Ed decided to open his own club, Whiston Taekwondo, we now flew under the WTF banner which best suits our daughter’s fighting style. At this point we had to embark on a new learning process as the patterns terminology and history are different across the two styles.
There are many positive lessons to be learned from Taekwondo. Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, Perseverance and Indomitable spirit.
From hard work brings results and rewards…so now in 2018 as I stand here a black belt my next journey begins, I’ve introduced my 3 grandchildren to the art so they may grow strong and fit too.
