Hi, i’m Ed Calland 3rd Dan and Head Coach at Whiston Taekwondo.
I started taekwondo in 2008 after watching my twin boys training. I sat and watched them for 6 months and decided to give it a go for the fitness benefits. I went from being a sit on the side parent to competitor and then on to coaching at the club we were training at.
As a student I competed at numerous tournament under ITF rules, and won lots of titles and competed in the world championships.
In 2013 I started Whiston Taekwondo club. I wanted a family based, family friendly club that would encourage healthy living, self control and self confidence.
Soon after opening, we switched from ITF to WTF (the style you see at the Olympics). The opportunities with WTF for younger students was and still is much better. In 2017, three of my students won the European selection tournament and 3 Cadets went to compete at the European championships in Budapest.
The club is a mixed age and mixed ablility club, everyone is friendly and all the coaches are excellent.
Come long and give it a go…first month free!
